Frequently Asked Questions

What is a subscription license vs. a perpetual license?

A subscription license is subscription based and requires a repeated timely renewal for continued usage.

However, a perpetual license does not require a yearly renewal to be used continuously for the version purchased. If a newer version is desired, you can renew your license at a discounted cost (25% of the initial price) in order to receive the latest Froala update beyond the 12 month mark.

The perpetual license is akin to ‘owning’ a specific version of the Froala editor for indefinite use, while the subscription license is similar to ‘renting’ the Froala editor for a limited time period.

How do Froala editor updates work?

All licenses receive free software updates for 12 months after the date of purchase. Beyond this time, you can still get the latest update by renewing your license or by purchasing a new license.

We also have multi-year discounts available on 24 and 36 month plans, if these should better suit your needs. Please contact our sales team to learn more.

Can I try the Froala editor before I buy it?
Of course! Take advantage of our free trial by visiting our download page to test the Froala editor before buying. You will also receive thirty days of free technical support after starting your trial. The trial is fully featured and for all functional purposes exactly the same as the licensed versions. However, you will notice a Froala attribution watermark and red ‘unlicensed’ banner that will be present on the editor until the purchase of a Froala license plan.
What should I know about the Pro license plan?

The Froala Pro license plan is meant to support numerous application types, such as internal applications or mobile applications.

Key features of the Pro license plan include:

  • Unlimited editor loads and active users
  • One year of Froala editor software updates.
  • One year of top-notch professional technical support.

Some considerations with the Pro license plan are as follows:

  • The Professional license does not include the unminified source code. You are not allowed to use the Froala WYSIWYG HTML Editor in SaaS, or a subscription product. You will need an Enterprise plan to use the editor in these products.
  • The Froala license is bound to the product name, and it cannot be reused on other products.

If you are not sure whether the Froala Pro license plan would be appropriate for your use case, please contact our sales team for assistance.

What should I know about the Enterprise license plan?
The Froala Enterprise license plan is the most extensive and all inclusive plan meant to meet technically robust business application criteria. Key features of the Pro license plan include:
  • Use of Froala software in monetized applications.
  • Use of Froala software in Software as a Service (SaaS) applications.
  • Right to redistribute Froala as a part of your application.
  • Ability to use Froala in an application that is installed on premise at multiple customer locations.
  • The Froala software source code is provided to the customer for the purpose of modification, education, and troubleshooting by request from support@froala.com.
  • One year of Froala editor software updates.
  • One year of top-notch professional technical support.
License notes with the Enterprise license plan:
  • Under no circumstances can any of the Froala software source code be distributed, disclosed, or otherwise made available to any third party without the prior express written consent of Froala.
  • Under no circumstances may the Froala software source code be used in whole or in part as the basis for creating a product that provides the same or similar functionality as any Froala product.
If you are not sure whether the Froala Enterprise license plan would be appropriate for your use case, please contact our sales team for assistance.
How can I upgrade from one plan to another?
You can upgrade from one plan to another one by emailing support@froala.com. Moreover, you will only owe the difference between the existing license and the upgraded license you want to procure.
How can I terminate my subscription?
In order to terminate your subscription, you must give a 30 day written notice to Froala. This can be done by emailing support@froala.com. Once the license has been terminated, you must:
  • Remove all Froala software covered by the license and any related updates from any and all computer systems, storage media or other files.
  • Destroy the licensed material and any copies thereof.
  • Deliver an affidavit to Froala certifying that you have complied with the aforementioned termination obligations.
What is a ‘product’ according to Froala?
A product is defined by Froala as any unique ‘Derivative Work’, where a ‘Derivative Work’ is a software program developed by the customer that incorporates or contains modifications to the licensed software. A ‘Derivative Work’ includes modifications made to the source code, and any other revisions, translations (including compilation or recapitulation by a computer), abridgement, condensation, expansion, or any recasting, transformation or adapting of the licensed software.
What is an internal/intranet application
Any application that is accessed only by internal staff (generally protected by a login or password portal) is considered an internal application by Froala. The Basic license plan is specifically prohibited for use with internal applications. Customers seeking to use the Froala editors in such instances must purchase either the Pro or Enterprise license.
What does the license timeline look like?
For a perpetual license:
  • The purchased version of the Froala editor software is free for continued use.
  • Twelve months of free software updates and technical support are provided with the license.
  • Should a renewal occur one month before maintenance services expire, you will receive 25% off the prices listed on the Froala website at the moment of renewal.
  • Maintenance services will automatically renew unless otherwise notified by you. The additional period of notification is twelve months. Notifications by you must be in writing at least thirty days prior to the expiration date of the current maintenance term.
  • Within one year after terminating maintenance services, you may restart such services by providing notice to Froala and submitting a payment equal to the sum of the current list price for the maintenance fees for the upcoming 365-day period plus 1.5 times the price of the maintenance fees that would have accrued during the period of termination.
For a subscription license:
  • For the duration of the subscription period, the customer can use the Froala editor, receive software updates and technical support.
  • After the expiration of the Initial Term and each Renewal Term, you will automatically be invoiced for another Renewal Term unless Froala is notified in writing 30 days ahead of the expiration date of the current term that you wish to cancel your subscription. You will be invoiced at the then-current list price for the given subscription.
  • If the license agreement is terminated, no version of Froala may be used in any form in your products and all associated libraries must be removed from all your applications and servers.
Do prices include tax ?
No, all payments are exclusive of value added tax, sales tax and any other applicable taxes, duties or imposts which (with the exception only of those based on Froala’s income) shall also be payable by Customer in accordance with applicable law.
Is my renewal required to continue to use Froala?
Yes, all subscriptions must be renewed if you want to continue to use Froala Editor. Each renewal term is 12 months by default but we do have 24 and 36 months available with additional savings.
How much is my renewal?
Occasional promotions light up our Professional and Enterprise plans, giving you a chance to start your journey with us at a discounted rate. But do note, this benefit is for your first year only. Renewals will revert to our regular pricing. Our commitment to excellence ensures our service remains top-notch, making it a valuable tool for all users.
